This article is a little introduction to my new website about food and travelling. It might be a bit long and boring for you who have already read tans of those “ my vegan journey” stories so feel free to skip it and come back for some food inspiration next time.
I have decided to create a website to share my passion for food, coffee and travelling.
My vision is to post plant based recipes, places to eat delicious food and drink nice coffee. Most of the places I will post are in London or UK but except from food and coffee I love to travel which means you might find here some tips and advices from other cities/ countries as well.
At the beginning I would like tell you something about my diet because there is a whole story behind. I have definitely not been vegan since I was a child. I was born in Czech Republic and I was introduced to a usual European diet, which is based on bread, eggs, meat, dairy. As a kid I used to spend lots of time with my grandparents who had a big garden where they planted all kinds of fruit and veg. I remember eating so much fresh seasonal fruit and vegetable during summer and lots of pickled stuff during winter. I always loved to eat everything. My mum even said that whenever I was in a bad mood she took me out to local restaurant for pancakes with ice cream and it fixed me.
When I was teenager I was experimenting with all different diets. From eating as less as possible to eating anything I want. Low fat - high carb, Low carb - high fat, paleo.. I feel like I have tried anything I read about even though I wasn’t fat or overweight I had never been happy with my body. When I was 19 I moved to UK and suddenly I had to buy and cook everything for myself for the first time in my live and it was kind of eye opener for me. I stopped buying meat because it was way too expensive but I still ate meat or fish once in a while until the point I realised I don’t really miss it and I don’t have to make much effort to be a vegetarian. After while I stopped eating dairy as well but I still had an egg now and then until my friend told me to watch few documentaries and suddenly it made a sense for me to go vegan. It has been about 6 months since I eat plant based diet and at the moment I don’t really miss anything but in the same time I can’t say if it is for life time or not. I am not a big fan of telling everyone in my surroundings to go vegan because I know that what works for me doesn’t necessarily has to work for you but I think it is very important to think about the origin of the food we are buying and educate ourselves a little bit about the stuff we eat and where it is coming from.
That’s all about the introduction and I promise I will try my best to make the next post way more exciting !
